THE COST OF MAINTENANCE

Image
While coming back from the market day before yesterday in the evening, I saw a black smoke rising from somewhere not far from the road shoulder, with people, mostly young folks and women rushing towards the direction of the smoke. Obviously, some thing was wrong somewhere, and perhaps and accident, most likely, a fire outbreak, I expected. I was still inside Adaidaita Sahu then, and luckily, just few meters to where I'm supposed to drop, so I decided to allow a space for one of the bulky stranded passengers standing hopelessly by the road to kick in, and of course to go and confirm my expectation. As I approached the scene, my expectation is already confirmed. It was a fire outbreak! But this outbreak must have recently started, and thanks be to God that we have a local fire service station close to us, and it will take them less than ten or fifteen minutes to arrive, so this will be control in a matter of few minutes, yes it will be controlled! I sighed in presumption. As I moved

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING

Image
The terms "Technology" and "Engineering" is often found to be confusing and used interchangeably even among Engineers, scientists and other groups of learned people, perhaps because they are all basically ways of doing the same thing, but the reality is that there's a difference between them. Now let's the discuss the definitions of both, explain the things they share in common and come up with the differences in conclusion. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Engineering is defined as the application of science to the optimum conversion of the resources of nature to the uses of humankind. Whereas technology is defined as the the sum of the ways in which social groups provide themselves with the material objects of their civilization. It's also defined as the systematic way of solving problems and creating things for the benefit of mankind. Here there's something in common and equally something in different with the definitions of the above two ter

ON PLATEAU CRISIS

Image
If we really want peace to reign in this country, we should get the courage to condemn violence without looking at the ethnicity or religion of the perpetrators or the victims. Our habit of selecting what crime to condemn and what neglect does nothing than promoting disunity and violence. The attack on some Christian communities  in Plateau is condemnable. There's no justification to crime whatsoever. But only Government has the power of preventing the happenings of violence of this nature, that is by making sure that the perpetrators have received the punishment they deserve. But so long as malefactors continue to enjoy impunity, violence will continue to happen in the name of reprisal attacks!

A DISTANT ADIEU

Image
I cannot stop Thinking about you In this lengthy night That bars me and you Oh! I was lost in thought Gone mad anticipating That tomorrow will be kind To bewed me with thee I was deep in ween How great will I feel Sitting in front of you Gazing at your charming self I raise my head to sky But all see was dark Where gone those shinny things? They've been sunk in you Alas! I was then awake From the dream I was To the reality that was And the morrow wasn't kind That my dream is a faux And tomorrow I won't see stars And the whole day will be dark Is the most painful thought I had Darling how can I sleep? It's a thief though they say But even thief knows what to take How to take, and when to take Indeed  I have feel today How doleful it's to say adieu To a person one adores Especially when a distance adieu.

ON INTERNATIONAL YOUTHS DAY

Image
About six months ago, I happened to be among a group of youths (students and coppers) selected for a special national assignment, electoral work for a rerun election in some constituencies where the earlier election was canceled. A day before the election, we were gathered at the INEC headquarters and taken on buses for conveyance to our respective designated places. Coincidentally, I found myself inside a bus that contains people with whom I share the same passion, mostly comrades that are actively engage in the students union politics and whome have a passionate dream of participating in the sophisticated Nigerian politics in the future. There were about 15 of us in the bus, all students of the same university, some two of us were from engineering, other two from health sciences and all the remaining from humanities and social sciences. Thus the journey gave us a very wonderful opportunity that we exchanged views, opinions and ideas about the nature of Nigerian politics i

When things are falling apart, it is the duty and obligation of every one, in particular the active individuals to contribute to suppressing that in his or her own ways, thus a cleric ought to pray and preach in their fridays and Sundays sermons, politicians ought to blow critcisms using political terms, intellectuals ought to write articles, poets and poetesses compose poems, Artist write plays, dramas and sing songs, etcetera, to turn things copacetic. JUSTICE FOR UWA CAMPAIGN: A LESSON FOR THE NORTHERN YOUTHS

I don't think I will be mistaken if I say the story of one Uwaila Omozua, who until her death was a student of university of Benin that was raped to death on 27th of may this year (2020) by some hoodlums has recently become the most trending story on the Nigerian Media space, particularly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  From the day that the story emerged, several articles have been flowing on media streets, numerous poems have been composed, this is in addition to the uncountable number of video clips, graphic images and tweets, that the hash tag #Justice_for_uwa appears among the most trending tweets on Twitter, thus alluring not only Nigerian or African but even international attentions.
